Edmont was built by Phyllis's parents, Edith and Edward Gouldman, in 1976. The land parcel is known as Catletts's Mill and was part of the land tracts belonging to the Catlett family from the 17th century. The family purchased the land from decendants of the Catletts.

Campsites dotted the rolling hills over looking the valley during the Civil War. Today you can often see deer grazing the hills from the kitchen windows.
